We have finished both of our introductory units, and are now in the good stuff! This week we have started talking about the reasons of the seasons. Why is summer hot? Why is winter cold? Why are days longer in the summer and shorter in the winter? Your student already has the answers to all of these questions.

We have discussed solstice and equinox, and their role in marking the start of the seasons. I encourage dinner time discussions led by your student to further implant the knowledge in their mind. If they can explain it to you on a regular basis then they are getting that much more exposure to the content!

We are already 3 weeks in to the school year; that is really hard to believe! We have learned a great deal about the science lab, scientific method, how to display data, and how to appropriately give a sound scientific conclusion. I am really excited to see how well the students are progressing already! That means that our lessons and activities will be more involving and in depth.

If you haven't already, click over to the assignment blog so that you can see just what we have learned. We will have our first test on Friday and we will begin our next unit on Monday!!

Welcome to the 6th grade! We have had a packed week and a half of school already. Open house went really well last night, it was good meeting most of you! This week the students did their first official experiment. Using the scientific method we determined what type of paper (construction, copy, or tissue) was best for flying a paper airplane. The students hypothesized, conducted an experiment, and formed a conclusion all by themselves.

Today we are doing our first Assignment blog; venture over to that page and check it out! Also to come this week, we will be going on our first trip to the science lab. We will be doing experiments with water. Be sure to ask your student about this one!
